Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (61) and journalist Elisabeth Niejahr (59) made their first joint appearance as a couple at the Berlinale in January. Now they celebrated together again in Berlin. At the 71st Federal Press Ball, the couple first posed for the photographers on the red carpet in Berlin’s Hotel Adlon. He appeared in a black tuxedo with a white shirt and black bow tie, she in a black dress and a blue tweed jacket over it.

Karl Lauterbach dares to make a cannabis joke

Afterwards there was a celebration – including with Eckart von Hirschhausen (56) and Hamburg’s mayor Peter Tschentscher (58), as Karl Lauterbach shows on his Instagram account with a shared photo. “Three doctors at the federal press ball. Mayor Peter Tschentscher still has a high pulse about cannabis legalization,” jokes the minister in his comment.

Karl Lauterbach was single for a long time

Lauterbach spoke about his new love for the first time at the end of last year. At that time he said the “Picture” short and sweet: “I’m glad that Elisabeth Niejahr is in my life.” Niejahr is a successful journalist and managing director for the “Strengthening Democracy” department of the Hertie Foundation. She also previously worked for “Spiegel”, “Zeit” and “Wirtschaftswoche”, among others, and is the author of several books.

Karl Lauterbach was married from 1996 to 2010 and separated in 2004. The marriage has four children. He has another child from another relationship.
