Kasper group winner – Villacher SV loses and CHL promotion is gone

In the home game against the Straubing Tigers in the ice hockey champions league on Tuesday, Villacher SV missed all chances of promotion to the round of 16. The Carinthians had to admit defeat in the first of two group games against the favored Bayern after a 1:0 lead with 1:3 (1:0.0:1.0:2).

VSV had only won one in four previous CHL games in Pool F and should have won both outstanding games against Straubing within 60 minutes. Villacher SV then also scored the first goal of the duel with the Tigers: Robert Sabolic scored in the power Play after submission by Simon Despres and a solid shot in the 13th minute to make it 1-0 on the power play. The Straubingers had previously received a penalty for one man too many on the ice. The lead lasted until the 34th minute when Taylor Leier equalized for the visitors. In the 45th minute, JC Lipon gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. Although the Villachers then stepped up a gear again, the turnaround was no longer successful. When they took out the goalie in the finish, Leier scored again 18 seconds before the end to make it 3-1 for Bayern. The last group game of VSV near Straubing is no longer of any importance for the Carinthians. Two Austrians were also in action in other group games: defending champion Rögle BK with Marco Kasper in group D and Lulea HF in group A with a goal by Konstantin Komarek (1 :0 in Aalborg) have each achieved their fifth win and are already the winners of the pool before the last group games. Rögle defeated Zurich 3-2 in overtime, Lulea defeated the Aalborg Pirates 3-1. By the way, the second Group A game between Jukurit and Sparta Prague was scored 3-0 for Jukurit on the green table. Reason was because the game could not be rescheduled within 24 hours. Prague missed the game scheduled for Tuesday due to a technical defect on the chartered plane to Finland.
