Kate Beckinsale: Actress lost her unborn child

Kate Beckinsale stands by Chrissy Teigen after her miscarriage. Surprising: she too had to cope with such a loss.

Actress Kate Beckinsale (47, "Pearl Harbor") shows solidarity with Chrissy Teigen (34). On October 1, she announced on Instagram that she and husband John Legend (41, "All of Me") had lost their unborn child. The emotional words and intimate pictures that Teigen had published sparked a wave of sympathy. But they also caused criticism. Criticism that Beckinsale cannot understand. Surprisingly, she made public: "Years ago I lost a baby in the 20th week of pregnancy." The feelings that Teigen must now overcome are not alien to her.

"Be either supportive or quiet"

The negative comments of some users are a thorn in the side of the British actress. "As if there was a protocol (…) that, if ignored, encourages people to say how they (Teigen, editor's note) should deal with the unimaginable." At that time, she managed to keep the pregnancy and the miscarriage out of the public eye. On the inside, however, she "completely collapsed".

It is a time of "grief, shame and shock" that affected women have to go through, says Beckinsale. "Added to this is the heartache of your own body, which after the loss continues to pretend it has a child to feed." The actress says it could be "the loneliest time, especially when you don't have an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy." Their message is therefore clear: "Let the mourners decide what is right for them. Be either supportive or quiet."
