Kate Middleton and William: an original souvenir of their wedding put up for auction in Paris

On April 29, Kate Middleton and Prince William will celebrate their lily of the valley wedding. Married for thirteen years, the two lovebirds united in 2011 in front of more than two billion viewers, which made their nuptials the “marriage of the century”, according to the press at the time. In all, the event cost around 20 million pounds sterling (or 22 million euros), and concluded with a dinner organized at the palace at the expense of the groom’s father, the current King Charles III. Some 300 guests were then invited to share the couple’s table, and enjoy the meal, the menu of which was unveiled in 2015 by Paris Match. The latter will soon be put on sale by Lyon chef Christophe Marguin.

Indeed, the gastronome is also a collector in his spare time, and his favorite items are menus. Since 1986, the chef has accumulated several thousand historic menus, including royal menus. Among them, those of the “wedding breakfast” of Lady Di and Charles III and the wedding dinner of Kate and William. This last menu will appear in one of the 450 lots in the auction organized by Christophe Marguin and Drouot on May 31, in Paris, reports Le Figaro. Its price is not yet known, but could start at a few hundred euros.

A royal meal

The guests were served as starters marinated salmon from South Uist (in Scotland, where the lovers met) and crab from Lyme Bay. As a main course, saddle of lamb from Mey accompanied by spring vegetables from Highgrove and royal potatoes, all with Windsor sauce. And, to finish, a trio of desserts, consisting of honey ice cream, sherry trifle and chocolate parfait. The mounted piece, for its part, was a work of art. It was an eight-tier cake designed by pastry chef Fiona Cairns and inspired by the bride’s veil.
