The success of “Titanic” didn’t just bring positive side effects for Kate Winslet. This made her life “uncomfortable.”

Kate Winslet (48) became a superstar in 1997 with “Titanic”. An experience that she found anything but exciting. “I felt like I had to look a certain way or be a certain way,” she revealed in an interview with “Porter Magazine”. After the success of “Titanic,” the media invaded her privacy. “My life was pretty unpleasant,” she said now about the time.

When “Titanic” was released, Kate Winslet was already somewhat established in the film business; she was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role in “Sinn and Sensibility” (1995). But James Cameron’s (69) Oscar winner took her career to a new level. “I was grateful, of course,” said the actress about the success: “I was in my early 20s and could afford an apartment.” But she didn’t want to be seen literally “feeding ducks.”

This is how Kate Winslet tried to escape the hype

Kate Winslet tried to escape the hype by choosing roles in small films. In 1998 she played in the British-French drama “Marrakesh” and in 1999 she filmed “Holy Smoke” with “Das Piano” director Jane Campion (69), including courageous nude scenes. She consistently avoided potential blockbusters.

When journalists asked her whether her choice of roles was a deliberate strategy, Winslet would always say, “You bet you damn well.” Because: “Being famous was terrible.”

Kate Winslet has now made peace with her celebrity. Even though she thinks the word “fame” is “ridiculous,” she no longer sees it as a “burden.”
