With only two episodes left to shoot, the series “The Venery of Samantha Bird” with Katherine Langford was canceled on the Starz platform, as were three other series.
The curse continues for Katherine Langford. While she was to be the star of a new series, The Venery of Samantha Bird, the Starz platform simply decided to cancel the project.
Problem: a large part of the fiction had already been shot. Impacted by the writers’ strike – which officially ended on September 27 – filming of the series was stopped abruptly in early May when there were only two episodes left to film.
This abandoned project adds to the numerous disappointments that have accumulated in the actress’s career in recent years. After being cut from the editing of Avengers Endgame, a film in which she played the role of Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) daughter, Katherine Langford saw her Netflix series, Cursed, canceled after only one season.
However, the platform was banking heavily on this project, given the success of 13 Reasons Why, another series for which the actress had received a Golden Globe nomination. Recently, Katherine Langford was seen in an Australian program, Savage River, which went relatively unnoticed in the rest of the world.
Everything started well though. After the 13 Reasons Why phenomenon, the actress participated in two great successes: first in 2017, with Love, Simon, the first film for teenagers produced by a big studio to feature an LGBT character. And two years later, in Knives Out by Rian Johnson. Since then, she has not been able to find a project that matches her talent.
The Venery of Samantha Bird was to follow a young woman’s return to her hometown in New England and her reunion with a childhood sweetheart.
Three other projects were canceled at Starz: Heels, with Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, was canceled after two seasons, as were the series Run the World and Blindspotting, which were also canceled after two seasons.
It’s a safe bet that these cancellations are only a direct consequence of the writers’ strike which put many programs on hold and caused studios and platforms to lose a lot of money.
