The National League Final remained firmly in the hands of the home teams from the beginning of the series to the end. The home team celebrated in all 7 games and qualification winners ZSC won the 10th championship title in the club’s history thanks to a 2-0 win on Tuesday.

15 home wins in a row

The players also repeatedly emphasized this home strength. Sven Andrighetto said after the finalissima: “We always played great in our stadium and never let our opponents get into the game.” In fact, the Lions won all 8 home games in the playoffs. Including qualification, the Zurich team have had 15 wins de suite in the Swiss Life Arena since the end of January.

Chris Baltisberger, who can now call himself Swiss champion for the fourth time, emphasized the effort throughout the season: “We worked incredibly hard for it.” Even in the decisive 7th game, they pressed on the opponent’s goal from the start and remained patient until the redeeming 1-0 in the 40th minute.

Dario Trutmann, however, was able to lift the trophy for the first time. He also spoke of a consistently focused performance lasting over 60 minutes that earned him the title. It was particularly nice after the bitter defeat in the final despite a 3-0 lead against Zug two years ago. He saw the balanced team as the cornerstone of success: “Consistency and a great team are what made the ZSC this year.”

Big disappointment in Lausanne

On the other hand, the frustration was understandably deep. Lausanne defender Fabian Heldner also emphasized Zurich’s home strength: “We couldn’t find access to our offensive in any of the away games.” The Zurich team had the target too often and never let Lausanne come into play. The disappointment was incredibly great after the lost series.

Andrighetto also addressed this negative experience: “Most of us know how bitter it is to be on the other side. That’s why we can enjoy it even more now.” It is the 31-year-old’s first Swiss championship title. The team has earned this throughout the season and they now want to celebrate it properly with the fans.
