Katja Burkard has been with journalist Hans Mahr for 24 years. In an interview, she reveals why they never married.
RTL presenter Katja Burkard (57) has had a happy family life for many years. She has been in a happy relationship with her partner, the Austrian journalist Hans Mahr (73), for 24 years. The couple have two children. But the two never married. The 57-year-old revealed why this is so in the new episode of the celebrity magazine “Gala” on RTL.

She and her partner “missed the time to get married at some point,” she tells the moderator Annika Lau (43). Seven years ago, however, the application almost came about, thinks Burkard. On her 50th birthday, she had the feeling that Mahr wanted to make her a public marriage proposal. But she didn’t want that: “I told him: ‘Please don’t do that.’ I really think it’s that bad […].”
With her vehement resistance, she has probably “scared” her partner from an application, she suspects. But the presenter doesn’t seem to regret that. On Instagram When asked when she wanted to get married, she answered with a laugh: “I think I’m too old to get married now.”
