After six years: Pop star Katy Perry quits the talent show “American Idol”. That is the reason for her departure.

Pop star Katy Perry (39) is turning her back on the ABC talent show “American Idol”. The singer will leave the jury of the American counterpart to “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” at the end of the coming season. She revealed this on Monday in the Talk show by Jimmy Kimmel (56). Katy Perry has been a juror there since 2018 alongside soul legend Lionel Richie (74) and country singer Luke Bryan (47).

Before her appearance on Kimmel, Katy Perry teased the revelation on Instagram. She played the game “Two Truths and a Lie” with her followers. She wrote down three claims for her fans to decide which were true and which were false: “1. I beat Usher at ‘Monopoly Deal.’ 2. I’m headlining Rock in Rio in September. 3. This is my last season on ‘American Idol’.” If you want to find out the lie, you have to tune in to Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

Farewell because of Rock in Rio

Her exit from “American Idol” then turned out to be true. And the second truth is directly related to her farewell. In the fall, Katy Perry will lead the line-up of the renowned Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro. And that’s why she’s leaving the casting show.

“I love ‘Idol’ so much,” Katy Perry said on Kimmel: “It connected me to the heart of America.” But she has to “feel the beat of my own heart,” said the pop star.

Katy Perry’s final season on “American Idol” starts on February 18, 2024 on the US broadcaster ABC. It is expected to end in May this year.
