The Japanese brand best known for its motorcycles unveiled a very unique machine last week in Tokyo: an electric robot in the shape of an ibex that can carry, in its proposed form, a person on its back.

A robot intended for an obviously more serious use than the simple transport of users in an awkward way, even if it would have been very amusing.

He comes down from the mountain to ibex

Last week was held the big International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo. The opportunity for different brands to show their know-how in this area and the latest developments in the field. Kawasaki was present at the show, but not to unveil a motorcycle robot or other oddity inspired by a fashionable manga. The Japanese firm preferred to show its robot intended to help factories in an original way.

Boston Dynamics and its famous dog-robot Spot must tremble before such an original design. The Bex (short for Ibex, or ibex) is therefore a four-legged robot capable of carrying loads of up to 100 kg on smooth or more uneven terrain. Like Spot, he can move slowly with little jerks on his four legs, but he can also roll thanks to the four omnidirectional wheels on his knees and under his stomach.

As you will have understood, this robot is not only intended to create a buzz with its original look. It was designed for the same purpose as Spot, which is to help transport cargo and perform inspections in factories. So no, there won’t be any robotic “ibex” roaming around in herds (or maybe??) in the factories since the elements are modular and the ibex shape was just for show.
