Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss: That's why the two stars play Trinity and Neo again

It has been almost 20 years since Keanu Reeves (55, "Speed") and Carrie-Anne Moss (52, "Marvel's Jessica Jones") side by side in the last part of the "Matrix" series – "Matrix Revolutions" – were seen. The two actors are currently filming number four. For the "Heroes" edition, they now revealed to the industry magazine "Empire" what prompted them to slip into the roles of Neo and Trinity again.

The decisive factor was the screenplay by Lana Wachowski (54, "Jupiter Ascending"), which the author and director wrote together with David Mitchell (51, "Cloud Atlas") and Aleksandar Hemon (55). Wachowski created the "Matrix" trilogy shortly before the turn of the millennium together with her sister Lilly (52) as director and author of the screenplays. At that time the two were called Larry and Andy Wachowski.

"I never thought this would happen," Carrie-Anne Moss said in an interview. She never had another "Matrix" sequel on the screen until she read the script. "When I was shown it, with this incredible depth and all the perfection and craftsmanship you can imagine, I immediately thought: 'This is a gift!' I was totally excited. "

The script was "the only reason"

For Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, the script was also the deciding factor in his decision to shoot a fourth part of the "Matrix" series. "Lana Wachowski wrote a wonderful script and story that appealed to me. That's the only reason to be there," he said. "Working with her again is great. It was special and I think history has some important messages we could learn from."

In addition to Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves, "Matrix 4" will also take on Jada Pinkett Smith (48, "Girls Trip") and Lambert Wilson (61) in their roles of Niobe and Merovingian. New additions to the sequel include Neil Patrick Harris (46, "How I Met Your Mother"), Priyanka Chopra (37, "Quantico") and German actor Max Riemelt (36, "Die Welle").

Production should start again soon after the Corona break

Filming for the fourth part of the series is scheduled to resume in early July, according to a Variety report. Production had previously been stopped due to the corona pandemic. It is not yet clear whether the highly anticipated blockbuster will hit the cinemas on May 20, 2021, despite the mandatory break.
