Keanu Reeves is said to be in talks to star in Ruben Östlund’s next film. Will he become an angry airline passenger?

The Swedish director Ruben Östlund (50) recently caused a stir with his satire “Triangle of Sadness”. And with his next project he will again strike a satirical tone. As the industry magazine “Variety” now reports, Östlund could rely on Hollywood star Keanu Reeves (59) in “The Entertainment System Is Down”.

Reeves, who has shone in recent years as a leading actor in the “John Wick” action series, is said to be currently in negotiations. Several international stars are expected to appear alongside him. It is not yet known what role Reeves could play in the new film.

That’s what “The Entertainment System Is Down” is about

Details of the plot are also still under wraps, but it will probably be a social satire. The director was already talking about 2022 indicated with the industry magazine, which is roughly what it will be about. His new project takes place on a long-haul flight. “Shortly after takeoff, the crew informed the passengers that the entertainment system had failed,” said Östlund. “They’re now stuck on a 15 or 17 hour flight with no digital entertainment. They don’t have the screens that we’re so used to in our world today. So it’s going to be a study of how people in this little lab, that is an airplane, interact.” The script should be finished by now.

Östlund found major success with both 2022’s “Triangle of Sadness” and 2017’s “The Square.” For both productions he was awarded the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival.
