Kelly Clarkson: For her, her marriage-out is "the worst experience"

Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce in June. "My life was a bit like a dumpster," she says of the past few months.

In 2013 US singer Kelly Clarkson (38, "Since You Been Gone") married. In June of this year it was announced that her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, 43, who is also her manager and father of her two children, had failed. The 38-year-old filed for divorce. Now she has spoken more openly than ever about the last few months. On the US show "Sunday Today" she told host Willie Geist (45): "It's no secret that my life has been a bit like a dumpster. It has been a little difficult in the past few months."

Music as therapy

Clarkson has exchanged views with friends who have already been through a divorce. "I don't know how people get through this without having some kind of outlet," said the singer and talk show host. It is "the worst experience for everyone involved." The couple have two children together, daughter River (born 2014) and son Remington (born 2016). Blackstock also brought two children into the marriage.

She will also deal with her divorce with the help of her music. Her new album will be "the most personal that I have ever released". The record will reflect every feeling from the beginning to the end of a relationship. She describes the album as "very honest". Working on it was like a kind of therapy for her.

Kelly Clarkson became known through the talent show "American Idol", the US counterpart to "Deutschland sucht den Superstar". Since 2019 she has her own talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show". The show immediately won three Daytime Emmy Awards, including Clarkson for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. She is also on the jury of the US show "The Voice".
