The Apple fan who already has everything still needs one of two things: plenty of desk space and good cable management for all devices or the Kensington Studio Caddy. These are accessories “to support Apple’s ecosystem.” At least that’s what it says on the box. But you can also put it more simply: The Studio Caddy is a stand for MacBooks, iPads and iPhones. But it doesn’t stop there, because it can wirelessly charge smartphones and AirPod models with the right charging case using the Qi standard.
Kensington Studio Caddy: two become one
But before that works, you have to assemble the stand first. It can’t be that difficult. It isn’t. The fact that the Studio Caddy consists of two parts was not immediately apparent from the outside and caused a small surprise. One part is covered with fabric and looks chic and classy. In a small recess it offers space for the AirPods. There is an upright stand for the iPhone, also with a cover. The expensive smartphone should be comfortable. An advantage of the design: Users have an immediate view of incoming messages.
The other part is designed to hold the iPad and MacBook in place. To ensure that the devices do not slip, the manufacturer uses a rubber holder. It’s more useful than classy, but it’s okay. What I like: Both halves of the Studio Caddy each have a heavy base and a rubberized bottom. This looks solid and ensures a good grip on the desk.
iPhones charge wirelessly with 7.5 watts. For smaller models, the manufacturer includes an increase for the stand.
Another advantage results from the design. If you like, place the MacBook and iPad behind the iPhone part. Both parts then stick together magnetically. This results in a footprint of 19.6×15 centimeters. If you don’t have space on your desk, you can simply place the parts separately. If necessary, the MacBook disappears behind the monitor while the iPhone remains in view.
Loads and loads and loads
In order for the iPhone and AirPods to be able to fill up, it naturally needs electricity. A power pack is included in the box and is permanently connected. After switching on, it is sufficient to hang up the devices. iPhones with a wireless charging function (from the iPhone 8) fill up with 7.5 watts, the AirPods with 5 watts. Even if it says so, the function is of course not limited to the Apple cosmos. Some Android smartphones that offer a quick charge function even charge with 10 watts on the Studio Caddy. If that is missing, it is only 5 watts.
There is a USB-C and USB-A port on the right side. You charge more devices.
Conclusion
The Kensington Studio Caddy goes from the online retailer from 150 euros. If you want to afford it, you get a practical organizational talent for your Apple fleet, which also keeps iPhones and AirPods fresh at all times. There is a downside because the device only loads the Apple Watch indirectly.
