Apple AirTags have changed my life, saving me from spending countless hours searching for keys and other items that I didn’t put in the right place. But there are some flaws in their design. Firstly, the replaceable CR2032 battery means you need to stock up on it every year. Then there is their shape and size. These tiny UFO-shaped objects don’t have a hole to attach to a strap, and they’re too bulky to put in a wallet without hurting your butt.

Yes, some wallets do have a slot for an AirTag, but in my experience, they are all too bulky. But there is a third-party product similar to the AirTag that takes everything the original Apple AirTag has to offer and fixes all of the problems mentioned above and more. This tag is the KeySmart SmartCard.
The first thing I like about this SmartCard is its thickness, or more precisely its thinness!

While I was testing this card, I thought it would be great if KeySmart had built MagSafe technology into its card to allow it to attach to my MagSafe iPhone charger. And in fact KeySmart has thought of everything: this card attaches magnetically to MagSafe wireless chargers!
As there is no cover for access to the battery compartment, the tag is rugged and has an IP7X rating for dust and water resistance, and can survive up to 30 minutes immersion in 1.5 meters of water.
And despite their thinness, these items are durable and withstand a lot of bending and pressure, allowing them to survive in wallets.

Besides all these improvements, this device works like an AirTag. It is activated using the Find My application: so you can search for it if you have put your wallet in the wrong place. This is the AirTag that Apple should have made.
Purchasing advice for the KeySmart SmartCard tag
AirTags are great, but they have the limitations of the first generation that Apple will one day fix, I’m sure, with a new version.
But for now, it’s the best AirTag for those who want a slim solution for their wallet or as a luggage tag.
