Kia announces a new plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) of its famous Sportage.

This technology makes this hybrid model the most powerful in the range.

The Kia Sportage also in PHEV mode

At the end of last year, Clubic invited you aboard the new hybrid Kia Sportage. Today, the brand announces the arrival of a rechargeable hybrid version (PHEV) of its bestseller. This new, more powerful model should hit the market by the end of the year. It will be available in the United States in X-Line and X-Line Prestige versions.

Under the hood, the Kia Sportage PHEV claims a total power of 261 horsepower (compared to 226 for the hybrid model), thanks to its 1.6 L turbo engine combined with a 66.8 kW electric unit. Everything is powered by a 13.8 kWh battery and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This is the same powertrain already introduced by the Kia Sorento and other Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe.

Kia promises an “all-electric” autonomy of around 50 km as well as a combined consumption which should approach 6.7 L/100 km. For its part, the complete recharge will be done in two hours, via a 240 V socket.
