Killers of the Flower Moon: which “giant” of cinema is the film dedicated to?

In theaters since October 18, Killers of the Flower Moon is dedicated to a very close collaborator of Martin Scorsese.

When he embarks on a shoot, Martin Scorsese likes to surround himself with people he knows well, people he trusts. On Killers of the Flower Moon, the man who recently called for saving cinema notably brought together his two favorite actors, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, accomplices for many years.

On the technical side, the New York maestro has also worked for more than 30 years with Thelma Schoonmaker, his appointed chief editor. The latter is one of the filmmaker’s most valuable collaborators. Another person is also very important to Scorsese, the composer Robbie Robertson.

The musician wrote the scores for Raging Bull, La Valse des pantins, La Couleur de l’argent, The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon. This sacred monster died on August 9 at the age of 80, before the theatrical release of the last opus by his great friend Martin Scorsese.

A PRECIOUS FRIEND

The director paid tribute to Robbie Robertson at the end of Killers of the Flower Moon. Just before the credits, a card states that this work is dedicated to the deceased musician. A nice gesture on the part of Scorsese, who was very affected by the death of his lifelong accomplice.

Robbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and in my work.

“Robbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and in my work. I could always count on him as a confidant, collaborator or advisor. I tried to do the same for him. Long before we met, his music played a central role in my life; not just for me but for millions and millions of other people around the world.”Scorsese said on Instagram on August 15, 2023.

“The music of his band and, later, Robbie’s solo music, seemed to come from deep within this continent, from its traditions, its tragedies and its joys. Needless to say, he was a giant and “His influence on art has been profound and lasting. You can never spend enough time with the people you love. And I loved Robbie.”concluded the filmmaker with a lot of emotion.

As a reminder, Killers of the Flower Moon was released in theaters on October 18. The story takes us to the beginning of the 20th century in Oklahoma. Oil brought fortune to the Osage people who, overnight, became one of the richest in the world. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted the lust of disreputable whites who intrigued, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as possible before resorting to murder.
