King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has strongly condemned the war in Ukraine. The royal spoke of a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden (75) has strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In a speech in Karlsborg on Monday (March 7), he stated according to the Swedish royal familythat Europe is “in an extraordinarily difficult situation” – “more difficult than it has been for a long time”. “The Russian Federation has invaded Ukraine. This violates international law and threatens fundamental rights and freedoms,” the monarch said.

“Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people!”

The 75-year-old also emphasized that “the humanitarian catastrophe” was a “fact”: “People are fleeing their homes and their country. Families are being torn apart. Innocent people are dying.” Together with other EU countries, Sweden had “strongly condemned the Russian actions. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people!”

Charles XVI Gustaf of Sweden came to the appointment in military uniform. The monarch addressed the Swedish Life Regiment of Hussars, to whom he presented a new standard. In his speech he also emphasized the history of the regiment, which dates back to the 16th century.
