This order of knights looks back on almost 700 years of tradition: On today’s Garter Day (June 19), King Charles III. (74) attended the “Order Of The Garter” service at Windsor Castle for the first time as a monarch. The traditional service for members of the Order of the Garter always takes place on a Monday in June in St. George’s Chapel. The 24 members of the 1348 by the English King Edward III. (1312-1377) donated order wrap themselves in the traditional, remarkable costume of the Order of the Garter. Queen Camilla (75) accompanied her husband.

Princess Kate wows in polka-dot dress

In contrast to her husband, the English heir to the throne Prince William (40), this dress code did not apply to Princess Kate (41). She appeared in a polka dot dress with small dots, and combined it with a black fascinator with a white feather. Her white pearl earrings once belonged to William’s late mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997).

Garter Day is a day of honor for members of the Order of the Garter. Anyone who has rendered outstanding service to the general public can become a member. Former Prime Ministers Tony Blair (70) and John Major (80) also attended the traditional procession at Windsor Castle on Monday – they too were dressed in the traditional robes of the Order of the Garter.
