The stamps with the likeness of King Charles III. were revealed. Unlike his predecessors, Charles does not wear a crown.

Britain’s Royal Mail has approved the design for the new stamps featuring King Charles III. (74) presented. Like his predecessors, the monarch is shown in profile on the postage stamp. But there is a crucial difference.

King Charles III without crown

The stamp featuring the king will be available in the same four colors used by the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) at the end of her reign: plum violet for first class, sea turquoise for first class (large), holly green (second class) and fir green (second class large).

There is, however, one major difference between Charles III. and all other monarchs issued since the world’s first postage stamp, the “Penny Black” (1840) by Queen Victoria (1819-1901). The new British king is not wearing a crown in the silhouette-like image. This is according to “MailOnline” the personal decision of the king himself.

The new brands are scheduled to go on sale from April 4th.

What will happen to the Queen stamps?

The stamps already printed with his deceased mother remain valid until they are used up. According to the Royal Mail, the king has instructed that stamps should not be shredded or thrown away. According to the eco-conscious monarch, there’s no rush to use up stocks — no matter how long it takes.
