After Mette Frederiksen proclaimed King Frederik the new monarch of Denmark, the Prime Minister made an unpleasant mistake online.

It is official: Crown Prince Frederik has been King Frederik of Denmark since January 14, 2024. At 3 p.m. that Sunday, the 55-year-old was proclaimed the new monarch by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, 46.

“Long live His Majesty King Frederik the Tenth!”

“Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe II, has abdicated. On behalf of the Kingdom, I would like to express my heartfelt and loving gratitude to Queen Margrethe,” said Frederiksen on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace, emphasizing: “The Crown Prince, who will now become our Regent, is a king we know. A king we care about. A king we trust. We welcome Denmark’s new head of state. And wishing him happiness in his life and work – and therefore for Denmark – According to Danish custom, I will proclaim three times: Her Majesty Queen Margrethe Second has abdicated. Long live His Majesty King Frederik the Tenth!”

Mette Frederiksen has to correct Instagram post

A confident speech during which King Frederik repeatedly had to furtively wipe the tears from the corners of his eyes – out of emotion. A few hours after the proclamation, however, Mette Frederiksen made a mistake that could be bitter for the new king. In a post on Instagram, where Frederiksen shares a series of photos of the historic event, the politician tagged the wrong royal family: She tagged the official Instagram account of the Norwegian royal family in her posting. The post was visible for 35 minutes before the flag was removed. “Se og Hør” has a photo as evidence.

The post is now online without the Danish royal family being tagged. “Long live His Majesty King Frederik the 10th. The Crown Prince, who will now be our regent, is a king we know. A king we care about. A king we trust,” writes Mette Frederiksen to the Series of pictures. She doesn’t comment on her faux pas.
