It is not the first time in recent months that King Harald has had to take a break from his duties. Now the monarch was again unable to attend due to illness. Now the palace has announced that it will have to rest even longer.

King Harald, 86, suffers from a respiratory infection and does not seem to be recovering properly at the moment. On January 31st, the court announced that the monarch was on sick leave until February 2nd. Now the treating doctors apparently felt compelled to extend the recovery break. The advice seems to be that at least on weekends he should stay in bed again.

King Harald has been struggling with health problems for a long time

Prince Haakon, 50, is now at the helm of the Norwegian monarchy. He has had to represent his father several times in the past. King Harald had already been on sick leave in October and last May. The royal family announced on May 8, 2023 that he had been diagnosed with an infection requiring treatment and had been admitted to the Rikshospitalet. His condition was described as stable at the time. About a week later, it was announced that the king had been released from the hospital.

The next official date is on Monday

Harald’s next official appointment after his absence due to illness is on Monday, February 5th. Whether he will be fully recovered by then remains to be seen. At least, according to current knowledge, he should not be in a hospital. This suggests that the course of the infection is less worrying.
