KitchenAid releases frosty novelties for spring

While the Artisan is one of the best-equipped food processors on the market, KitchenAid continues to increase the number of optional instruments. With the arrival of the beautiful season, the manufacturer released a new ice cream maker and an accessory for grating ice.

“Kakigori”, shaved ice, “bingsu”, so many terms, unknown to many, which define the same thing, a popular frozen dessert in Japan, Hawaii or South Korea. This finely grated ice cream (yes, yes!) is traditionally flavored with tea, condensed milk, or topped with syrup. It would be a mistake to say that it is a granita, its texture closer to that of powder: fine and airy. If the trend has not yet reached us, KitchenAid poses as an avant-garde by marketing a new accessory to create this famous shaved ice.

Before use, sufficient ice water should be provided. We can then redouble our ingenuity and freeze tea, coffee, gazpacho or even an avocado! Four molds come with the accessory and allow you to freeze the necessary quantity of ingredients. After 12 to 24 hours in the cold, the ice cream is ready to be finely crushed. It is then necessary to fix the accessory on the front part of the food processor, like all the other extensions available. And, good news for owners of the Mini version of the Artisan, you can also grate ice, because the instrument fits all models. It is also delivered with two different blades, in order to obtain a more or less fine result.

If the powder snow normally makes skiers happy, it intends to satisfy the gourmands here. They’ll have to shell out $129 to get that perfect texture.

KitchenAid is also releasing a new version of its ice cream maker. Offered by the manufacturer for several years, this accessory allows you to make ice cream yourself. This updated model would offer better cold retention and a uniform texture. Its aesthetics have also been redesigned: the bowl is now grooved white with two handles.

However, the principle remains the same. Always place the double-walled bowl in the freezer several hours before making your ice cream — KitchenAid recommends doing this 16 hours beforehand. After this time, the ingredients must be added and mixed for at least 30 min. Finally, for the ice cream to have a creamy texture, it must mature for 2 to 4 hours in the freezer.

Sold for €149, the ice cream maker is not suitable for the Artisan Mini, nor for the 5KPM and 5K5 models. The classic Artisan 175 and 185 are among the lucky winners, along with the new 195.

The 5KSM195 pastry robot is indeed the latest reference released by the manufacturer. With this model, a new accessory integrates the kit: the pastry beater. This nozzle, designed to introduce cold butter into pie bases or biscuits, should make preparations more homogeneous than with the classic flat beater. Sold separately, it is available in stainless steel or nylon coated.

KitchenAid plays again on aesthetics by editing, thanks to this robot, a new beetroot color. This chic and original “color of the year” also adorns the K400 blender and joins the many other colors already offered by the manufacturer.
