Kiwis are a hairy thing for some. Not easy to peel and sometimes much too sour, they are not exactly a favorite type of fruit for many. Nevertheless, one should not underestimate the fruit. Because the kiwi is a real vitamin and nutrient bomb.

The fruit has come a long way because it originally comes from China and is therefore also known as the Chinese gooseberry. From there the fruit was exported to New Zealand about a hundred years ago: There it was given the name of the endemic bird by which it is known all over the world today.

Kiwi as a source of vitamin C

The berry fruit is a real all-rounder. It supports the immune system, ensures a restful sleep and is a delicious diet snack. Kiwis are full of antioxidants and vitamin C. Antioxidants bind free radicals and can thus prevent diseases. You don’t really have to say much about vitamin C, the more the better. An adult’s daily vitamin C requirement can be covered with just one large kiwi fruit or two medium-sized kiwi fruit: 100 grams of kiwi fruit contain around 45 milligrams of the valuable vitamin – the immune system is happy.

Kiwi as a sleep aid

The kiwi can also be used as a potential bedtime snack. A Study from Taipei Medical University found that adults who ate two kiwi fruit an hour before going to bed fell asleep 45% faster and slept 13% longer than those who did not eat kiwi fruit. Scientists suspect the combination of the antioxidants contained in the kiwi and the substance serotonin has a positive effect on our sleep.

Kiwi as a sweet temptation for desserts

The few calories (60 kcal per 100 grams) of a kiwi make it the perfect diet snack. Thanks to the high content of potassium, it keeps blood sugar levels low. Food cravings stay away longer. The contained enzyme actinidain helps keep the metabolism and organism going. If you don’t want to spoon the kiwi, you can incorporate it into your breakfast in some other way. Sliced ​​into muesli every morning or liquid as a smoothie, it gives us a fresh start to the day. In the evening you can also use the kiwi as a sweet salad for a healthy dessert – just try it out!
