Village footballers celebrate historic European Cup victory

The amateur footballers from KI Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands are celebrating a historic victory in the Conference League and can even dream of advancing. For Liverpool FC, this is just a formality after a clear win against Toulouse FC.

Meanwhile, Ajax Amsterdam’s crisis continued. At the English club Brighton & Hove Albion led by national player Pascal Groß, the struggling Dutch lost 0:2 (0:1). Even after parting ways with coach Maurice Steijn last Monday, Ajax remained without a win for the ninth competitive game in a row. After falling to relegation in the Eredivisie, there is also a threat of exit from the Europa League.
Brighton’s Joao Pedro (42nd) and Ansu Fati (53rd) made Amsterdam’s negative series worse with their goals. After two draws at the start, Ajax, who were looked after by previous assistant Hedwiges Maduro in Brighton, are bottom of the table in Group B. A ray of hope: the English in second place are only two points away.
Meanwhile, there was a historic moment in the Conference League. The amateur footballers of KI Klaksvik celebrated the first victory of a team from the Faroe Islands in a European Cup group stage with a 3-0 (2-0) win against Olimpija Ljubljana. The team from the town of Klaksvik, which has a population of 5,000, can dream of progressing in Group A. Rene Joensen (30th), Pall Klettskard (44th) and Arni Frederiksberg (54th) shot the underdog to success. Klaksvik had previously lost at Slovan Bratislava (1:2) and even drew 0-0 against favorites OSC Lille. Lille, which won 2-1 (0-1) against Bratislava on Thursday, is one point ahead of the Slovaks with seven points, Klaksvik has four and Ljubljana has no points.
