Knitting instructions: knit noble blankets to cuddle with

You can knit yourself a cozy blanket and get through the winter wrapped up warm. Here you will find knitting patterns and instructions for ten elegant blankets.

Knit nest warmers yourself

Without the fringes, the blanket measures approx. 130 cm x 170 cm.

What you need to knit the blanket:

Yarn from Lang Yarns“Virginia” quality (100% superwash new wool, length approx. 50 m/100 g): 2700 g in gray no. 3. One long circular needle 9 and one thick crochet hook to tie in the fringes

Basic pattern: 1st to 6th row: GARTER ST = knit every row. Rows 7 to 10: ST in KNIT = knit st from back, purl st from back. Always repeat rows 1 to 10.

Gauge: 9 sts and 14 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm.

How to do it:

Cast on 120 sts and knit in basic pattern. When the piece measures approx. 170 cm, cast off the sts after a 6th row in pattern. Tie 1 fringe into each stitch on the cast-on and cast-off edge. Cut a thread about 25 cm long for each fringe. Gather the thread in half, pull the loop through the st with the crochet hook, then pull the end threads through the loop.

What you need to knit the blanket:

Approx. 2300 g light gray wool, color 234-906, “Clou” quality (75% new wool, 25% polyacrylic, length 85 m/50 g) by Junghans, material price approx. 130 euros. 1 circular needle No. 20 (100 cm long).

How to do it:

Rib pattern with 4 threads: beginning row: *purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 1, purl 2, knit 1, repeat from * 4 times, finish with purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2. On all following rows knit stitches as they appear.

gauge: Knitted in rib, 5 sts x 8 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Cast on 80 sts and knit in rib. Loosely bind off all stitches 2 meters from the cast-on.

What you need:Wool quality “Boston” from Schachenmayr SMC (70% polyacrylic, 30% new wool, length approx. 55 m/50 g). Blanket – how it works: Cast on 156 stitches in medium grey, knit one row. Continue knitting 230 rows in stockinette stitch (right rows, back rows purl). End with a right row, for the cord edge pick up 156 stitches from each of the four side edges.

cord edge:

Knit 3 stitches with neon pink at the beginning of the cast-off round (see above right). *Knit 2, knit the next two stitches twisted together (1 neon stitch with 1 medium gray stitch). Slip these three stitches back onto the left needle. Repeat from * to the last stitch. Cast off the last three stitches and fasten the thread.

Pillow case – how it works:

Cast on 54 stitches in medium gray and knit 162 rows (= 90 cm) in stockinette stitch. Lay the cushion in half wrong sides together and pick up stitches all around for the cord edge: 3 times 54 sts on the side edges and 54 sts from the folding edge (the place where the 90 cm are folded to 45 cm) = 216 sts Knit the cord edge in neon pink (see blanket). Sew the cast-on and cast-off edges together and sew in the zipper by hand. Close the side seams. Cover the pillow.

Knitting up stitches – this is how it works:

With the right needle, knit a stitch out of the first stitch in the row, pull the loop a little longer and lift it crossed onto the left needle, do not take out the right needle, but pull the next loop through and lift it back onto the left needle. For a blanket of approx. 140 cm x 160 cm you need wick wool, eg 1700g “Arctic” (length 100m/100g) from www.wolland.de or 1500 g “Malou” (barrel length 65m/50g) from www.langyarns.com. And a circular needle size 9 – 10 in 1 m length.

basic pattern:

The number of stitches must be divisible by 12 so that the pattern repeat works. There is also an edge stitch on each side. The edge stitches are always knitted on the right.

How to do it:

For the lower and upper edge of the blanket, 6 rows in stockinette st before the first cable and after the last cable. knit. Cast on 194 sts (1 round st + 192 sts + 1 round st) and repeat the repeat in width and height.

You need this (for a blanket of 150 x 125 cm): Gedifra Cashmerino (55% merino wool extra fine, 35% polyacrylic, 10% cashmere), 400 g each in color 4866 lime, 4881 petrol, 350 g in color 4835 heather and 450 g in color 4816 silver, 2 size 4.5 knitting needles1 long circular needle size 4.5, 1 darning needle.

basic pattern: a) Large moss stitch (for the patches) 1st row: purl 1, knit 1 alternately 2nd row: knit sts as they appear Row 3: knit 1, 1 st. purl alternately 4th row: knit sts as they appear Repeat these 4 rows.

b) Stockinette stitch (for the border) knit 1st round purl sts, 2nd round knit sts.

That’s how it works: The blanket consists of 30 patches: 8 patches each in lime green and petroleum, 7 patches each in heather and silver: Cast on 50 stitches and knit 66 rows in moss stitch. Knit 30 patches and sew together five patch strips (consisting of 6 patches) in any color sequence. Then sew the strips together to form the blanket. Knit the border in gray stockinette purl.

To do this, knit 300 sts out of the long edges and 250 sts out of the cross edges from the right side (= 1100 sts). Work the border in four parts: from the center bottom to the center side, continue to the center top etc., mark the corner stitches. Purl 1 st before and after the corner stitch in each round. Knit 5 rows in total, then bind off. Join the open edges together.

GARTER STITCH (KR): With a size 4.5 needle. Rows to the right, rows back to the right.
