• Once upon a time : In Latin America, a merry band of animals live together in harmony in the country of Xo, in the heart of the tropical forest. On the fringes of this community lives Nachi, a young orphan coati, resourceful and solitary. A natural disaster suddenly threatens the inhabitants of Xo. The treacherous Saina, a manipulative snake, takes advantage of the desperate situation to seize power and incite all the animals to leave their forest.
But for the old wizard Cocopa, there is hope – and that hope, against all odds, is Nachi…
Nachi therefore leaves his community, accompanied by Pako, a hyperactive glass frog, and by Xochi, a fearless monarch butterfly. Together, these three unlikely adventurers embark on a dangerous quest to save their home and, perhaps, unravel the mystery of Nachi’s origins.

Coati, glass frog, monarch butterfly, armadillo, jaguar, quetzal, coral snake, anaconda… Rodrigo Perez-Castro’s feature film features a bestiary that we are not used to seeing on the big screen screen.

The fauna and flora of Latin America are brilliantly represented and allow children to discover the Amazon and the wonders it abounds in, including Mayan temples covered in lush vegetation.
Of Mexican origin, the director previously worked for Disney, Bluesky, Paramount Animation and Dreamworks TV studios. He notably worked on The Legend of Manolo, Ice Age: The Laws of the Universe, Ferdinand and Rio 2, for which he was also nominated for the Annie Award in the category Best Storyboard in a feature film. ‘animation.
Koati is his first production. With this film, he wanted to pay homage to Latin America.

• What may worry them: The Coral Serpent Saina takes advantage of an earthquake to get rid of Balam, the leading jaguar of the forest, in order to take his place. But the latter leads the people straight to their loss by leading them towards the volcano which threatens to erupt…
Only Nachi dares to face him. The latter then sends her army of snakes to get rid of him.
• What they will keep inside : Despite their inexperience, Nachi and Pako will try everything to save the inhabitants of the forest. Not hesitating to brave the terrible Saina and her army of snakes. The film shows children that you are never too young to make your voice heard.
By following in the footsteps of other coatis, the young and solitary Nachi will understand that those around him are part of his family and that differences do not count. His quest will allow him to grow and learn that we need friends to move forward.
Koati is a great colorful adventure about the quest for identity, friendship and obviously shows that it is important to preserve nature and its inhabitants.
