Konami makes a most radical decision

While Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake should be released this year on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, Konami is celebrating the release of the latest MGS compilation. But without Hideo Kojima who disappeared from the radar.

After the Survive disaster, and a few months in the fridge, Konami has re-released Hideo Kojima’s legendary license with a new compilation which brings together the first three MGS, the two MG and various bonuses. The launch of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 took place in 2023, but the publisher has just launched a series of videos around the saga with the main objective of putting it back in the spotlight, and of introduce them to newcomers. Even if it means continuing to make a clean sweep of the past by removing its progenitor.

A few weeks ago, Konami announced the release of “Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series” videos. Capsules commented by David Hayter which aim to return to the legendary franchise. The first episode, available below, provides a summary which very clearly popularizes the games contained in the MGS Master Collection Volume 1 to retain mainly the most “futile” elements. But there is one element that has not escaped everyone who watched it, and that is the absence of Hideo Kojima.

The father of Metal Gear Solid is deliberately ghosted, and we witness a balancing act where we must not pronounce the name of Flight of death Kojima-san. Only “the developers” are mentioned during this six-minute video. So obviously, it was hard to see the publisher quoting the creator 40 times. But completely ignoring it didn’t go unnoticed by fans. “It’s amazing how they managed to talk about the history behind the games, without mentioning a certain name”; “Funny how they suppress Kojima’s name” can we read in the comments of the YouTube video. A perilous exercise indeed, but one to which Japanese society is accustomed. Hideo Kojima still appears in the credits of the games available in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. But will this still be the case for Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake?

Also, if you are watching this capsule and you have never played Metal Gear Solid, be careful! There are two big, nasty spoilers for MGS 1 game mechanics. Two things that absolutely must be discovered by players, and not through a promotional video.
