KOTOR remake is on hiatus at Aspyr

During a PlayStation Showcase at the end of 2021, Aspyr was able to make the crowds dream. The announcement of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was joyful. If the news was rare in the months that followed, it seems that the studio is on a bad slope. Two project directors have been fired, and the entire development team is on hold. The remake of KOTOR is not ready to arrive, nor even to see the end of its nightmare.

This sad decision followed the presentation of a demo to Sony and Lucasfilm Games. While the developers were proud of their work, it would appear that neither company nor Aspyr executives were blown away by what was shown. Blame it on a disproportionate amount of time and money, which would have spread throughout the game. Spending lavishly does not suit everyone, let alone those who have to provide the money. This was followed by the dismissal of the design director and the artistic director, as well as an indefinite break for the project.

Aspyr is already looking for new faces to take over the helm. But Saber Interactive, a support studio for a few months, could well end up finishing the job. A solution that could do great harm to the company, which seeks to prove that its porting expertise can be applied to major games.

Fortunately for fans of the license, other games in the universe of Star Wars are in development. There will therefore be plenty to wait for the release of this remake. A mobile arena game, Star Wars: Hunteris expected, even if its release date has just been postponed.
