“Krone” tasting – The Salzburg donut test knows no losers

The “crown” was tasted during the carnival season with apricot donuts from all over Salzburg. It quickly became clear that the perfect donut is a matter of personal opinion.

The big “Salzburg Krone” donut test brought a surprise: There are no losers, only winners! But it is also a fact that tastes really do differ. Each tester had their personal favourite. Whether Pinzgauer donuts or delicately fluffy pastries – all carnival donuts convinced the “Krone” palate.Fine fluffiness and a favoriteOnly carnival donuts from Salzburg bakers and confectioners were put to the test for taste. Supermarket or discounter goods were not on the tasting plates. The delicious donuts, all handmade and not machine-made, delivered advantages without exception. However, the editors – with a full stomach – got involved with one favorite: the products from the Pongauer Bäckerei Bauer won the rating for their fluffiness and fine, homemade jam On the trail of the best, selected carnival baked goods from each Salzburg district were freshly tasted on the same day for two tasting days. City donuts were packed on the way to the office, while challenging logistics were required for the donuts from the inner mountains: test donuts from Pinzgau and Lungau came to the editorial office in the state capital by public bus In a blind tasting, the editors Schulz, Torner, Snobe and Kronberger tasted a total of 14 sweet baked goods in detail for taste (dough, jam) and consistency. Price and weight were not thrown into the scales of the evaluation. They are listed for the sake of completeness.
