Kuwait’s new Emir sworn in before Parliament

KUWAIT, December 20 (Reuters) – Kuwait’s new emir, Sheikh Meshal al Ahmed al Sabah, was sworn in on Wednesday before the parliament of the small emirate, during a ceremony broadcast on state television.

Sheikh Mechal al Ahmed al Sabah, 83, succeeded on Saturday his half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf al Ahmed al Sabah, who died at the age of 86. He has effectively ruled Kuwait since 2021, when Sheikh Nawaf, in fragile health, gave up most of his functions.
