As Europe 1 revealed this Monday, the Ministry of the Interior had contacted La France insoumise but also Jean-Luc Mélenchon in person to study strengthening their security. However, Gérald Darmanin’s chief of staff never got a response. For its part, LFI assures that nothing was offered to them.

On Monday, several members of La France insoumise denounced the speed with which journalist Ruth Elkrief was able to benefit from police protection. Denouncing a form of “double standards”, they assured that they themselves had not benefited from similar measures even though they too were facing threats. Europe 1 thus revealed that the Ministry of the Interior had tried to contact several LFI elected officials and even with Jean-Luc Mélenchon in person, without receiving any responses. A version that the party denies this Tuesday.

Mathilde Panot, the leader of the rebellious deputies, is categorical. “More than a dozen MPs in my group are regularly threatened with death. I have a MP who had to move three times due to threats from the extreme right. And I assure you that he has never Protection was not offered to any of the deputies.”

“I’m still waiting for news from the Interior Ministry”

The elected official assures on the contrary that La France insoumise has repeatedly asked Gérald Darmanin for police protection, without response from the Minister of the Interior. Ugo Bernalicis, targeted by death threats, confirms. “I was attacked at the Gare du Nord, a little over two months ago. I am still waiting for news from the Ministry of the Interior.”

Claims which will be difficult to prove on the part of the Insoumis, because Europe 1 was able to consult messages sent by Gérald Darmanin’s chief of staff to several members of LFI, to the point of trying to contact Jean-Luc Mélenchon who did not never answered.
