The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday that an investigation had been opened after a complaint filed by rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon for malicious telephone calls and death threats, linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict. “In recent days, death threats and insulting and threatening telephone harassment have multiplied against elected officials, personalities and activists of France Insoumise,” deplores a press release from LFI, referring in particular to “the public dissemination of telephone numbers and personal addresses of around ten personalities from our movement and members of their family”.

The movement also denounces “the irresponsible and inflammatory behavior of the government”, which “fuels these violent attacks in the service of a lamentable and dangerous political strategy”.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s movement specifies that certain figures of rebellious France have suffered “attacks using the methods previously used by Ulcan”, a Franco-Israeli hacker, “that is to say telephone hacking allowing the transmitter to pretend to be someone else. “Several deputies have had to change their telephone number, others have moved and all must warn their families and relatives not to believe any call announcing the death of their loved one.”
