The crackdown was obviously necessary, because noise pollution and complaints kept occurring on the beaches of the northern Italian lake. In addition, the police had to intervene more often because of riots. To restore order, tourists are being asked by fines to be quiet and behave in a way that doesn’t disturb others.
“The bathing beaches of Lake Garda are places where everyone, locals and tourists, can enjoy the beauty of nature and moments of relaxation without getting angry at those who, without civic sensibility, make their own rules,” said local police commander Filippo Paoli of the Italian newspaper “L’Adige” .
The new rules of conduct apply, among others, to the beaches from Sabbioni to Punta Lido and from Porfina to Porto San Niccolò.
What tourists need to watch out for now
In certain areas of Lake Garda, holidaymakers are not allowed to play football or other games involving running, throwing objects, or pushing or pulling objects or people.
Also, it is forbidden to wet or make fun of passers-by for fun. Water pistols and similar toys are no longer allowed.
Bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and sports equipment may not be parked everywhere, but only in the spaces provided for them.
The following activities are not allowed: feeding wild animals, lighting campfires by the lake, fishing (near ports and historical centers), picnicking, barbecues and camping on the lake shore are prohibited.
Tourists who shout, sing or shout loudly face severe fines. Musical instruments or loud radio devices such as smartphones, tablets or Bluetooth speakers are also not permitted. The same applies to graduation parties, bachelor or bachelorette parties.
