Notebooks seem to magically attract dirt and dust at times. This enables consumers to properly clean their device.

Like smartphones, desktop PCs or other electronic devices, consumers should also clean their laptop at regular intervals – and not just for reasons of hygiene. The lifespan of a laptop can also be extended in this way. In general, the following applies: The device should be switched off during the process. Consumers should also remove the battery beforehand.

Different surfaces and displays

As with the other components of a notebook, hard tools such as some brushes or the like should be avoided to avoid scratches. At best, a microfiber cloth is used. For more stubborn dirt, consumers can also use a suitable plastic cleaner sparingly or a slightly dampened cloth. You should make sure that no liquid flows into the various openings of the laptop. In the worst case, a short circuit could otherwise occur later.

When cleaning the top, users should also apply little pressure so that the device's display underneath is not damaged. Microfiber cloths and suitable cleaning agents should also be used on the display itself. At best, do not spray the agent directly onto the screen, but onto the cloth. There are also moist display cleaning cloths. The corners can be carefully cleaned with cotton swabs, among other things. Once again, users should be careful not to apply too much pressure to avoid possible damage.

Keyboard and fan

To remove crumbs and the like from the keyboard, users can turn the device over and gently tap the back to remove the worst of it. Compressed air sprays or special cleaning gels can also be helpful. Then a cloth slightly moistened with water or a suitable cleaner can be used. However, liquid should not run into the interior of the device here either. There are also special keyboard vacuum cleaners or corresponding attachments. Once again, however, you should be careful not to suck up individual keys.

To be able to clean the fan, the notebook has to be opened in most cases or the corresponding covers have to be removed. This should also be done carefully so that parts do not break off when removed. Users should also remember how the device is reassembled correctly. Consumers can then use fine cotton swabs to remove the dust from the fan. Corresponding ventilation openings on the laptop should also be cleaned so that the warm air can escape unhindered during later use of the device.

Battery and garbage data

Garbage data on the hard drive should also be removed at regular intervals. In this way, users not only shovel more space for important files, but performance can also be improved under certain circumstances. Software helpers such as the "WinOptimizer" from Ashampo or the "Ccleaner" are ideal for this.

Last but not least, you should pay attention to how the battery of a laptop is charged in order to extend its life. On the one hand, short charging times should be avoided and, on the other hand, the battery should always be fully charged. Even before the battery is completely empty, the laptop should be reconnected to the mains. If the laptop is not used for a long time or is constantly connected to a power source, it is also advisable to remove the battery completely.
