Happy birthday Lara Fabian! The singer celebrates her 54th birthday on Tuesday, January 9. A birthday that she certainly celebrates surrounded by those close to her, namely her daughter Lou, born in 2007 from her relationship with the director Gérard Pullicino, and her husband Gabriel di Giorgio, 13 years younger. But who exactly is this handsome brunette who has shared his life for almost 14 years? According to the singer’s confidences in our columns in February 2020, Gabriel is an Italian Sicilian magician, originally from Acireale. “He has his job as a magician engineer, does his tricks, but also sings in concerts and plays the guitar,” she explains to us “He has another way of seeing things, that fascinates me”, she adds.
It was in 2012, at the age of 42, that Lara Fabian crossed paths with her future husband for the first time. “We met in Italy where he was participating in the musical Casanova. He taught children at a school to perform illusions on stage. she tells us. At that time, the Belgian artist worked as a vocal coach on the project. “A man with long hair comes on stage last. His name is Gabriel Di Giorgio. He is both a teacher and a member of the troupe. He looks at me but doesn’t say a word. That day, I’m a washed-out version of myself: no hair, no makeup, and not really dressed to my advantage. Yet… I will learn later that in just one look, Gabriel is certain: I am the woman of his life!“remembers the interpreter of I love you from the magazine Paris Match : “I don’t share his enthusiasm. However, over the months, the pretty Belgian allowed herself to be seduced by the Italian. The age difference still raises doubts about Lara Fabian, who ends up succumbing to the confidence exuded by Gabriel, then 29 years old. “I knew very well that he was relatively younger than me…”she admits on the set of Sunday Earthlingsspecifying that the musician thought she was also younger. “I told him: ‘No, not so much, I’m 42’. He said to me: ‘And?’ And then I said to myself that I could kiss him, that it was without risk“. In reality, a part of me is a child, and a part of him is a wise old man, so it works well.“
A more than successful marriage
It works so well that the star married the magician on June 28, 2013, barely a year after their meeting, during an intimate ceremony organized at the town hall. However, we had to wait a few years for the singer to reveal photos of their nuptials on Instagram, preferring to live her relationship out of sight. In 2015, Lara Fabian made a new exception in dedicating his song to him entitled The illusionist, taken from his album My life in yours. In March 2019, Gabriel sent her a true declaration of love in a video broadcast on the set of Do not touch My TVwhere his wife is passing through. “I’ve been married for seven years. It’s a marvel” she says after hearing the magician’s sweet words. “I must have done something right in my life to deserve such a being.”
On June 28, Lara Fabian and Gabriel di Giorgio celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. For the occasion, the mother recounts her romantic evening on video. An unprecedented initiative, she who has so far only revealed two photos of her husband on Instagram… “Today is a very special day in my life, in our life, We are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. My husband is taking me to a restaurant that I love and I wanted to show how beautiful it is what he gave me as a souvenir of my bouquet on our wedding day. He made me make a huge rose made from petals.” In addition to this nice attention, the artist was able to enjoy sushi in his favorite restaurant, then a chocolate ice cream enjoyed by the water. In 13 years of living together, the couple had to find their rhythm between the job of one and the career of the other. The Italian therefore made the choice to put his professional life on hold to take care of their family but also accompany Lara Fabian on her tours. “Gabriel takes care of my daughter. He manages when I go on a trip for ten days. They both cultivate a very beautiful relationship. If my husband had continued to perform in public, we would have had to hire someone to take care of Lou.” she tells us in 2019. “SO, we made choices. He designs his ‘tricks’ at home, and sells them to other magicians. We set up a laboratory, a workshop so that he could develop his numbers. It’s a big enough space where he can make a horse or a piano fly! And we live very close to Lou’s school, who goes there by bike or by bus.”
