On Wednesday, an employee discovered a damaged safe that had been filled with explosives at a scrap metal storage yard in Klagenfurt. A large contingent of police moved out.

The company employee made the strange discovery on Wednesday at around 1:10 p.m. at the scrap metal storage yard in the St. Ruprecht district of Klagenfurt. “In a damaged safe that had been dumped with scrap metal, the man noticed what appeared to be explosives and alerted the police,” says a police spokesman. Disposed of illegally a long time agoSeveral police patrols moved out to secure the location and to block the surrounding danger area on a large scale. Nearby buildings were also evacuated for safety reasons. “The explosives are of a commercial nature that are believed to have been dumped illegally in the safe a long time ago,” the official said. The explosives were gradually destroyed on site by the defusing service until the evening. “This means, for example, professional burning or professional ignition of the explosives,” explains the police officer. Undamaged ignition material was secured by the defusing service for later destruction. It is not yet clear where the explosives came from. The investigation is ongoing.
