Larry McMurtry received an Oscar for the script for “Brokeback Mountain”. The author died on Thursday at the age of 84.

Larry McMurtry has written over 30 scripts during his career. The successful novelist and screenwriter has now died at the age of 84. A spokeswoman for the family confirmed the death of the US newspaper “The New York Times”.

McMurtry’s works include the books “The Last Picture Show” and “Weg in die Wildnis”. Both were implemented for film or television and brought the author international recognition. “The Last Performance” earned him an Oscar nomination in 1972, and in 1986 he won the Pulitzer Prize for “Path to the Wild”. McMurtry finally received an Academy Award in 2006 for “Best Adapted Screenplay” for “Brokeback Mountain”. The main roles in the film were played by Heath Ledger (1979-2008) and Jake Gyllenhaal (40).
