Lars Eidinger: Shitstorm online because of controversial promotion

With his latest project, Lars Eidinger (43, "Personal Shopper") obviously makes more enemies than friends if you believe the mood on social networks and German media. Indignation is especially a picturein which the actor poses for his new luxury bag in front of an apparently real homeless night camp.

What does the actor say?

For many, the bag alone is problematic: Together with the designer Philipp Bree, the actor and DJ have designed a leather bag that is based on the classic plastic bag from Aldi Nord. The limited bag costs 550 euros and, according to Eidinger, should be "a bow and an appreciation of the everyday".

Eidinger demonstrates the luxury variant of this everyday item particularly "edgy" on Instagram. Once he sits on an old chewing gum machine in the wild city, once in a shopping cart on the street, once on the floor of a pedestrian passage. In addition, he wears a rather careless outfit in a slack stance, which leads many users to the conclusion that the privileged Eidinger capitalizes on an aesthetic that has little to do with style for those affected – and probably little for Eidinger with his everyday life ,

In an interview with "Iconist", the lifestyle magazine of "Welt am Sonntag", Eidinger says of the campaign to the bag: "There is no social criticism behind it. One day I'm in front of such a bed, which is of course a bit critical. But it is is a part of our world that is only hidden in many areas. I want to show it, but I don’t want to rate it. I don’t rise above it. "
