Late drama in Karlsruhe
Werder does it with Ducksch and Weiser

Werder Bremen have no problems at all with newly promoted FC Ingolstadt. They do their duty with decency. Mitchell Weiser scores on his second division debut for the old master. St. Pauli missed the leap to the top, Karlsruhe won yet another draw against Kiel.

Karlsruher SC – Holstein Kiel 2: 2 (1: 0)

Holstein Kiel has continued to catch up after a totally screwed up start to the season. The storks got a point with the 2: 2 (0: 1) at Karlsruher SC and scored five points from the last three games. Kyoung-Rok Choi (39th) had put Karlsruhe in the lead, Joshua Mees (78th) equalized. Fin Bartels (80th) then ensured the Kiel victory, with only 82 seconds between the two goals. Philipp Hofmann (88.) scored to compensate for the home side.

KSV Holstein, third in the previous second division season and participant in the relegation to the Bundesliga, had lost the three opening games with 0: 3. After two wins in the first two games, KSC remained without a threesome for the fourth time in a row and recorded three draws.

The hosts got off to a slightly better start and had the first chance (4th) through Marc Lorenz. But Kiel also came dangerously in front of the opposing goal. Fiete Arp’s header (8th) missed the target. Likewise, Kiel’s Finn Porath header went over the goal (20th). After the somewhat surprising opening goal, Marvin Wanitzek (47th) missed the 2-0 for KSC with a shot on the far corner. Kiel started without the injured newcomers Julian Korb and Steven Skrzybski, but Arp and Phil Neumann joined the team. In Lewis Holtby, another newcomer on the part of the North Germans was not available due to muscular problems.

Hannover 96 – FC St. Pauli 1: 0 (1: 0)

FC St. Pauli missed the leap to the top of the table. When the north rivals Hannover 96 started weakly, Hamburg lost 1-0 (0-1) and received their second away defeat in a row. While the Kiezkicker slipped to fifth place, 96 climbed into the middle of the table after their second home win.

Sebastian Kerk (39th) scored the winning goal for Lower Saxony, who, under their new coach Jan Zimmermann, had the worst second division start in 31 years with just four points from the first five games. Zimmermann had to replace veteran Mike Frantz injured in midfield after just four minutes, but the hosts determined the first half. The hosts’ first chance to score was missed by Maximilian Beier, who failed with a header at goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj (9th).

Shortly before the break, Kerk, who was substituted on for Frantz, did better, who won the opening goal. Vasilj was only able to fend off a shot from last-minute newcomer Lukas Hinterseer. St. Pauli went into the second half with significantly more commitment. Ex-national goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler prevented the equalizer with a brilliant save in a shot by substitute Christopher Buchtmann (65th). Two corona cases caused a stir in Hanover: After newcomer Tom Trybull, offensive player Valmir Sulejmani also tested positive for the virus. Since all further tests were negative, nothing stood in the way of the game.

FC Ingolstadt – SV Werder Bremen 0: 3 (0: 2)

Bundesliga relegated Werder Bremen has finally forgotten the moderate start to the season and scored the second convincing win in a row. Bremen won a well-deserved 3-0 win at newly promoted FC Ingolstadt (2-0). An own goal by Nico Antonitsch (24th) and the hits of the strong newcomers Mitchell Weiser (42nd) and Marvin Ducksch (49th) ensured the away win of the green-whites, who jumped to third place in the table for the time being.

The Bremen team, where Leverkusen loan Weiser made its competitive debut, was the more active team from the start. The well-deserved lead was a happy one, a cross from Niklas Schmidt steered FCI central defender Antonitsch into his own network. Before the break, Weiser, U21 European champion from 2017, made a bold start and a dry finish for the reassuring 2-0.

A few minutes after the break, Ducksch put the lid on the game. After a shot from the strong Schmidt, the striker dusted off with his head – his third goal in the second game for Werder, which was prepared for the northern derby next Saturday against HSV. The FCI had no chance against the Hanseatic League in the further course of the game and slipped to a relegation place after the defeat. The only downer for Werder this afternoon: Captain Ă–mer Toprak had to be replaced in the first half due to an injury.
