After several years of development, Apple, Google and Mozilla have managed to develop a better tool for evaluating their browsers. Last week, the Webkit teams published a new blog post. This essentially covers the many improvements made to Safari in recent months, and more mainly the performance gains observed between the publication of Safari 17.0 in September 2023 and that of Safari 17.4 last month.
Concretely, based on the Speedometer 3.0 benchmark, the WebKit team claims to have optimized performance in WebKit and Safari. In addition to making the Web faster for everyone, Apple assures that the introduction of Speedometer 3 will “ enabling developers to create sites and web applications that are more responsive and vibrant than ever before.”
Safari performance increases by 60%
To support its words, the Cupertino company also boasts of having increased Safari’s Speedometer 3 score by 60% in just a few months. Here is more exactly what we can read in the blog post published by Apple:
“ With all of these optimizations and dozens more, we were able to improve the overall Speedometer 3.0 score by approximately 60% between Safari 17.0 and Safari 17.4. Although individual gains were often less than 1%, over time they all added up to make a big difference ».
To top it off, the Californian giant assures that some of the optimizations recently deployed have also benefited Speedometer 2.1. Proof, “ Safari 17.4 is approximately 13% faster than Safari 17.0 on Speedometer 2.1 ».
