Hollywood star Hugh Grant has apparently settled a lawsuit against the editor of a British tabloid.

Hugh Grant (63) has apparently reached an out-of-court agreement with the publisher of The Sun newspaper. This is reported by “bbc.com”, among others. The British actor had sued News Group Newspapers (NGN) for, among other things, violating his privacy. Grant claimed that journalists used private investigators to tap his phone and break into his home. According to the report, his lawyer is said to have outlined the allegations in court documents relating to the case.

The actor’s lawyer, David Sherborne, said now according to “Independent”that while Hugh Grant’s case merited a hearing in the High Court in London, he had decided to settle out of court with NGN. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, it said. NGN has reportedly denied any wrongdoing on behalf of The Sun staff and is now said to have settled over 1,000 lawsuits out of court.

Hugh Grant has sued NGN before

Hugh Grant’s lawsuit was one of several to be heard in London’s High Court. Prince Harry (39), who has been taking action against the British tabloid press for some time, has also sued News Group Newspapers for allegedly widespread illegal information gathering.

Hugh Grant has been one of the prominent advocates of press reform in Great Britain since the phone-hacking scandal involving the News of the World newspaper more than a decade ago. The Notting Hill star had previously filed a lawsuit against NGN in connection with the now-defunct tabloid. Here too, according to BBC.com, there was an out-of-court settlement in 2012. The film star had also taken legal action against other tabloids years before.
