League of Legends: Upset, really better than KC Rekkles?

For a few days, Upset popped up in our Twitter trends and at the time it was hard to understand why as we’re still eagerly awaiting the start of the LEC playoffs. After some research, we finally understood that he had still caused a stir on the networks. After throwing a small spade that would have been intended for Rekkles, the former ADC of Fnatic now at the Karmine Corp.a debate has raged on the internet: who is better between the two ADCs ?

Obviously, on the French side the question does not even arise. If Rekkles has become a national treasure since arriving in LFL, Upset is not really in the odor of sanctity in France. Many have not forgiven him for his setbacks during the last Worlds and his verbal sparring with Adam Where Nisqy. But let’s show some objectivity to try to answer the question with facts.

The winners: Rekkles winner by KO

The French community is not stupid and it supported where it hurts to defend its new foal. We can’t fault him and Rekkles indeed has a much more scintillating track record that Upset. The Swede has won the European league 4 times (at the time LCS EU). The German did not win much on his side… Apart from a DreamHack Valencia in 2016 with Nisqy and Nerroh, there is not much to get your teeth into at the moment. It should also be noted that the ADC of Karmine Corp has accumulated quite a bit of success internationally, playing 6 times Worlds (including a final) and once the MSI. The German hasn’t really played internationally and the only time he qualified for the worlds (2021), we know how it ended (badly)…

There is therefore no photo between the two ADCs. But out of intellectual honesty, let us point out that Rekkles has 3 more years than Upset. The latter is only 22 years old and he could perhaps catch up quickly, especially if he wins the LEC this year.

Direct confrontations: Rekkles advantage but

You're not dreaming, it's Adam and Upset. - League of Legends
You’re not dreaming, it’s Adam and Upset.

Rekkles and Upset have had the opportunity to meet many times on Summoner’s Rift in the European league. The Swede has often played at the top, whether at Fnatic or G2. The German had a much less linear trajectory, alternating between good and bad, especially at Schalke 04 Where Origin. Even if we cannot sum up a League of Legends match to an individual confrontation and we must take into account all the players involved in a match, head-to-head is still an interesting indicator. The two ADCs have faced each other 31 times and a clear pattern is emerging.

  • Rekkles : 20 wins
  • Upset : 11 wins

The small but is that recently the trend has reversed a bit. Upset won his last Bo5 against Rekkles in the playoffs of the Summer 2021 (3-2). During the regular season, he also won his two duels (2-0). We cannot properly speak of a transfer of power, but the dynamic is not really to the advantage of the Swede.

The current level: well obliged to respect Upset

Mbappe is he better than Messi football ? The Frenchman has not yet accomplished a quarter of what his Argentinian teammate did at PSG, but today the tricolor seems much more decisive, efficient and decisive. We do not know if this football comparison will speak to everyone, but today we can reasonably say that Upset displays a better level than Rekkles. The German plays in the LEC while the Swede is in the LFL. It may be an anomaly, but it is above all a reality. If we develop a little, we are not even certain that Rekkles is the ADC who has played the best in the French league since the start of the season. We found him a little absent despite his pentakill in Nice. But players like Crownshot (BDS Academy) or Exakick (LDLC OL) tickled him well… In LEC, the panel of experts spoke and Upset was acclaimed (146 points), well ahead of his runner-up (Comp, 89 points).

Obviously, that does not erase the prize list and the past. But today, we wouldn’t find it shocking to say that Upset is better… Waiting for a possible return of the King.

esport-lol

And 1! And 2! And 18-0! Faker and T1 continue to make League of Legends history and for the first time a Korean team finished the regular season undefeated. It’s beautiful, it’s big, it’s strong… But others had already done it, elsewhere.
