The shocked Marcelo, who had seen a red card three times in 546 competitive games for Real Madrid, reported in the evening with a statement: “I experienced a very difficult moment today,” he wrote on Instagram. “Unintentionally, I injured a colleague. I wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sánchez.”
Nobody wanted to blame Marcelo, who played 58 games for the Brazilian national team. The Argentinos Juniors also emphasized on social media that the incident was an accident. “We are rivals, not enemies,” said the club. Fluminense coach Fernando Diniz said after the game Marcelo didn’t deserve the red card. The incident was an “unfortunate event”.
