Legacy of Claude Berri: this visit of Thomas Langmann to his brother, Darius, at the origin of the war

Since the death of Claude Berri in 2009, two of his sons have been waging a fierce legal battle. It was while visiting his brother Darius that Thomas Langmann discovered an astonishing detail.

The Langmanns have been waging a fratricidal war for years. In 2009, Thomas and Darius lost their father, Claude Berri, who died of a stroke at the age of 74. A legendary producer and director of French cinema, he left behind a colossal legacy estimated at 85 million euros, including many works of art. Before his death, Claude Berri had decided to favor his youngest son, born of his relationship with costume designer Sylvie Gautrelet. But Darius Langmann has decided to share the director’s fortune equally with his half-brother, 15 years his senior. A choice hailed by Thomas Langmann… before a visit to his youngest son cast doubt on himas reported by Sunday newspaper in its February 13 issue.

At his brother’s house, he comes across “a table by Giaccometti (…) which seems to him not to have figured in the act of sharing”, write our colleagues. It will not take more for Thomas Langmann to accuse part of his family of having injured him from part of his father’s inheritance. As reported The Parisianthe producer of The Artist claims that more than 600 collector’s items, which he estimates at 200 million euros, have been hidden from him. A few weeks ago, the Court of Appeal agreed with him: according to them, 434 works of art were diverted from the estate of Claude Berri, according to the Chained Duck : “Nathalie Rheims (the director’s last companion is likely to have concealed certain assets belonging to Claude Berri and not to have brought them to the estate as part of an agreement with Darius Langmann”.

Thomas Langmann: will justice prove him right?

“This decision pleases me because it shows that contrary to what the opposing parties say, my accusations are not the fruit of the imagination of a sick mind”reacted Thomas Langmann to the Parisian. His brother Darius’ lawyer then mentioned a “obsolete decision“: “To date, my client has not been heard either by the judges or by the investigators. He considers that this judgment is a fabric of untruths denied by the civil action in progress on the same facts. For him, this are fabrications of Thomas Langmann”. But determined to recover his due, Thomas Langmann does not give up. According to JDD, “appeals in cassation have been filed” and “a new civil hearing has been set for October” while waiting for the auditions of Darius Langmann and Nathalie Rheims.
