The canton of Geneva wanted to ban the business of the Uber transport service provider in Geneva. This is shown by research by French-speaking Switzerland radio and television RTS.
MITC Mobility, which employs a large proportion of Uber drivers in Geneva, has obtained super-provisional measures against the canton of Geneva. This means that it can continue to operate for the time being.
The cantonal court must now decide how to proceed for Uber in the canton of Geneva.
Since a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court, Uber drivers in Geneva have been employed by a third-party company, MITC Mobility. According to research by RTS, the canton of Geneva is demanding that the activities be stopped at the beginning of December. The canton argued that the new business model was not compatible with Swiss law.
Court decision is still pending
MITC Mobility boss Karim Sahnine explained that this model is not flexible enough. The company appealed to the cantonal court and received super-provisional measures that allow it to continue its work for the time being. The temporary measures will last until February 15. The cantonal court has yet to decide what will happen next for Uber in the canton of Geneva.
