Legendary Yoon is happy: Hans Lindberg grabs the handball goal record

Legendary Yoon rejoices
Hans Lindberg grabs handball goal record

Hans Lindberg has been playing in the Handball Bundesliga since 2007. Now the Danish right winger is entering spheres where nobody has been before him in the league: With his 2906th goal, he is the new record goalscorer. The owner of the old record is thrilled.

Hans Lindberg from Füchsen Berlin is the new record goalscorer in the Handball Bundesliga. The 41-year-old Danish right winger scored his 2906th goal against GWD Minden, surpassing the legendary Yoon Kyung-shin. The South Korean ended his HBL career in 2008 with 2905 goals.

With the 42:35 (20:15) in the home game against Minden, his foxes defended third place in the table and kept their chances of participating in the Champions League next season. For the guests, who ran out of breath at the end of a wild exchange of blows, the situation at the bottom of the table is becoming increasingly threatening. As 17th, Minden is on a direct relegation zone, followed only by last year’s promoted ASV Hamm-Westfalen.

Meanwhile, ex-record goalscorer Yoon takes his relief easy. “I played with Hans in Hamburg for a year and we always got on well, although I was perhaps not always the most pleasant backcourt on the right for a right winger,” said the world handball player from 2001: “I’m happy that someone will be my successor , which I like and appreciate very much.” He will “congratulate Lindberg with all my heart”.

Lindberg, who has been playing in Berlin since 2016, has been chasing goals in the Bundesliga since 2007. During this time he was top scorer three times (2010, 2013 and 2022) and won the DHB Cup (2010), the Champions League (2011) and the German Championship (2013) with HSV Hamburg. His contract with the foxes is valid until the summer of 2024. With Denmark, Lindberg became world champion in 2019 and twice European champion (2008 and 2012).
