Legislative 2022: Martine Aubry calls on the PS to validate the agreement with LFI

The mayor of Lille Martine Aubry called on the Socialists on Thursday to “validate” the proposed agreement with La France Insoumise in view of the legislative elections, despite “major reservations” on Europe.

While the National Council of the Socialist Party must decide this Thursday evening, Martine Aubry encouraged the Socialists to accept the LFI proposal, while stressing that this agreement “does not correspond in all respects” to her “deep convictions”.

For the mayor of Lille, this agreement on the left “is all the more justified since Emmanuel Macron is preparing to harden his liberal policy of social regression and climate inaction, and that 42% of the votes went to the extreme right which seriously threatens our democracy and our Republic”, she estimated.

Major reservations “concerning Europe”

If Martine Aubry shares “the proposals for social justice such as the increase in purchasing power, retirement at 60 for all those who have been worn out by work”, she pointed the finger at the “limits” of the agreement concerning the provisions on the European Union.

“I have major reservations about Europe”, because “disobedience to treaties and directives is not an option”, she insisted.

As a reminder, the agreement between LFI and the PS must still be validated by the 300 members of the National Council of the Socialist Party this Thursday evening.

Several historical figures of the PS, including François Hollande, regretted the choice of the party’s leadership.
