A few days after reaching an agreement for the legislative elections, the united left held its first meeting. The opportunity for the New Popular Ecological and Social Union to show their unity after more than 10 years of divisions and to propose itself as a credible alternative to Emmanuel Macron.
It is a highly symbolic Saturday which is announced for the union of the left. For the first time after the announcement of an agreement between the socialists, the ecologists, the socialists and the rebellious, a big meeting will be organized this afternoon in Aubervilliers in Seine-Saint-Denis. An important meeting which will be held in front of the investiture of Emmanuel Macron.
It is a “step into the unknown”, confides an elected socialist. Because for the first time in its history, the Socialist Party, present at this great national convention of investiture of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), will not be the majority force. A major change, where “it will be there perhaps, the first time that we will go to a meeting where the rebellious will be more numerous than us”, ironically the national secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure.
“Federate beyond our camp”
Because the allies of La France Insoumise are aware of it. This Saturday in Aubervilliers, they will only be guests at this convention. “Mélenchon will put on a show” admits a manager. But the most awaited event will be the family photo which will bring together for the first time on the same image, socialists, communists, ecologists and rebels. A photo which also formalizes the start of the battle for the legislative elections that the Nupes wishes to deliver.
“We want to show that Jean-Luc Mélenchon federates beyond our camp”, explains a rebellious. Objective for the latter, to offer a strong image in the face of the investiture of Emmanuel Macron which also takes place this Saturday, at 11 a.m. The popular bloc thus wishes to put itself on the same level as the president, in order to encourage voters to mobilize on 12th June next, the date of the first round of the legislative elections.
