Legislative: Hollande warns against “a disappearance” of the PS

Lex-socialist president François Hollande warned Thursday, April 28 against the risk of “a disappearance” of the PS in the event of an agreement with LFI which would provide for its erasure in the legislative elections of June. It would be “a questioning of the very history of socialism, of François Mitterrand and his European commitments, of Lionel Jospin and his economic credibility and his social progress”, he warned on France Info, saying his wish to see this possible agreement “reviewed or postponed so that the Socialist Party can, with its environmentalist, communist partners, begin to consider another union”.

This exit comes as discussions with LFI around an agreement for the legislative elections “stomp on”, regretted the leader of the Communists Fabien Roussel, demanding that the Communists, the Rebellious, the Socialists and the Ecologists come together to ” remove blocking points. “At this stage”, discussions with the Insoumis “are stalling. It is not moving fast enough because we do not have the feeling that all the conditions are met to trigger this dynamic” of gathering, declared Fabien Roussel on Public Senate.

“What is missing is that we manage to move from rallying to the Popular Union with a logo and a man to a rally that respects all the forces and that allows us to initiate a dynamic”, he insisted. “It cannot be join my program, join my logo and with a goal, elect me Prime Minister”, he estimated. He called for “gathering behind a common label that we could build together”, and “defining a legislative contract together”, putting “aside what makes our differences and on which we will not be able to agree. “.

Far from the account for the distribution of constituencies

For him, this legislative contract must make it possible to “agree on the ten proposals that we are committed to implementing from July”, such as the increase in wages and the minimum wage, the freezing of prices, or repeal of the El Khomri law. This contract must bring together on “two or three pages the points on which we can meet” and “not on 300 pages”, he insisted in reference to the program of La France insoumise.

But for this, Fabien Roussel asks that “we manage to meet together, the four political forces”, to “remove the various blocking points which exist today”, whereas for the moment, only bilateral discussions have had place with the rebels. Regarding the distribution of constituencies, he felt that “we are far from the mark. Today, we could not present ourselves in 90% of French territory, so you can imagine that concretely, it is not possible”. He finally criticized the campaign poster of La France insoumise for the legislative elections, which highlights its leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the inscription “Prime Minister”. “We who are fighting for a new Republic and against the presidentialism of elections, I regret that we also presidentialize the legislative elections and that we presidentialize Parliament to this extent,” he lamented.
